In recent years 470 (Falkirk) Squadron has undergone a significant overhaul incorporating new technology and embracing the internet and social media to enhance our public profile.

In 2014, the Staff and Civilian Committee decided it was time to celebrate the long history of the Squadron and its continuing involvement with our community by having a Squadron badge which represented our core values and would be officially approved by the Royal Air Force and and the Air Cadet Organisation.

As Squadron Media Officer, Civilian Instructor Marc Esson spent a number of months liaising with the Air Cadet Organisation Special Project Officer at Headquarters Air Cadets RAF Cranwell to address the redesign. Fortunately, the main elements of the existing design were accepted by the RAF Ceremonial Office since they were unique to the Squadron and our geographical location. This culminated in the College of Arms in London (Who are the heraldic authority for the UK and Commonwealth) approving the design and providing the Squadron with a framed hand painted original artwork once the official registration process was completed.

There are very few Squadrons who have crests which have been officially recognised by the College of Arms so the Squadron will display it with pride during the 75th Anniversary celebrations of the Air Training Corps in 2016.
