470 swaps their Wings for Paddles!

July 30th saw cadets and staff from 470 (Falkirk) Squadron swap their wings for paddles as they embarked on a Canoe and Kayak experience day on Loch Lubnaig with the assistance of Falkirk and Stirling Canoe Club.

As part of our drive to encourage participation in Adventure Training, the Squadron organised an experience day for cadets and staff of all abilities to get out on the water and try kayaking and canoeing. For many of the cadets this was the first time they had tried paddlesports but after a few hours in the water we certainly had them converted.

The main group split in two based on experience:

The beginner party got the chance to try single kayaks and tandem canoes to learn basic techniques on open water. This progressed into building a canoe raft and using a sail to rule the Loch Lubnaig waves!

Meanwhile, the party who had kayaked before worked with the club instructors to gain 1* qualifications on the open water before exploring the loch and playing a very competitive game of Kayak Basketball.

We pass a special thanks to all the team from the club that helped run the event.
