470’s Shooting Team On Target…Again!

Last month, 470’s shooting team attended the Cadet Inter-Services Skill at Arms Meeting (CISSAM) held at the Army Training Centre (ATC) Pirbright.

The road to Pirbright has been long and hard, the cadets started training back in January and have attended training weekends at RM Condor in Arbroath, Barry Budden in Dundee and Castlelaw in Edinburgh. All these range days involved early starts and late finishes and they have been out in all weather. Their dedication and determination throughout the year should be commended. Getting to CISSAM was the first challenge with 470 being one of only three ATC teams in Scotland managing to satisfy the stringent prerequisites and standards.

This year’s competition saw the Sea Cadets Corps (SCC) entering the most teams for many a year making the competition a true tri-service event, however the Army Cadet Force (ACF) have always been strong in this competition and always the team to beat.

Our cadets got off to a great start with third place in match 3 and a third Individual place for Sgt Samuel Hughes. Matches 1 and 6 were close but due to a great team average, we were able to secure an overall third place in the competition with Sgt Hughes getting a fantastic individual 2nd place.

The squadron was the top Scottish team, third-place RAFAC team and third place from all the UK teams attending. We achieved four Cadet 100 badges which is the most the squadron has achieved ever in one event.

Our team are now moving their focus to the Battle of Britain winter competition and the Punch Trophy which takes place in April 23.

470 cadets attending Pirbright 2022: Sgt Carnie, Sgt Hughes, Cpl Gray, Cdt Blackmore, Cdt Fraser and Cdt Walker. We also need to formally acknowledge the CFAV support from Sgt Buist and CI Docherty for all their support and commitment throughout the year which has allowed many of these training events to take place.
